By Jumbo Jet to Speyer?

Progress is measured by technology. Old technology is an invaluable cultural asset and reminds us of what we humans were and are capable of developing.
For this reason alone, you don't have to repair cars or go trainspotting in your spare time to get your money's worth at the Technik Museum Speyer. Since 1991, exhibits from the fields of aviation, railways, fire brigades and shipbuilding, among others, have been attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year to the south of Speyer, less than a kilometre from the cathedral.
The Sinsheim Museum of Technology built a second museum on the extensive site of the former Palatinate Aircraft Works, as it had reached the limits of its capacity at the original location.
In the ‘Liller Halle’, a listed industrial hall dating back to 1913, vintage cars, motorbikes, aeroplanes and historic fire engines are on display.

The huge outdoor area offers the opportunity to present extraordinary large exhibits. Highlights include a German Navy submarine and an Antonov, the world's largest series-produced propeller-driven aeroplane to date. However, the landmark of the Speyer Technik Museum that can be seen from afar - and to some extent the second landmark of the entire city - is the Lufthansa jumbo jet hovering directly above the museum.

As part of the space exhibition, visitors can also marvel at a Russian BURAN space glider, the counterpart to the American space shuttle. Its transport in Spring 2008 by sea from Bahrain to Rotterdam and from there on using a pontoon boat up the Rhine to Speyer, was a media event of the first order.

Wilhelmsbau

This fascinating cabinet of rarities with thousands of exhibits from the 19th and 20th centuries brings the spirit of days long gone back to life. A remarkable collection of fully automatic large orchestrions and very valuable flute clocks and music boxes can also be found here, as well as one of the largest collections of historical weapons and uniforms. Lovingly decorated display cases, painstakingly restored historical clothing and dolls as well as the ‘Rock'n Roll’ room bring history to life.

The Wilhelmsbau Museum is located directly on the grounds of the Technik Museum Speyer, just a few steps away from its main entrance and is included in the total admission price.

IMAX Dome - Large-screen film theatre

The IMAX DOME large-screen cinema is the only cinema of its kind in Germany. Here, the film is not projected onto a flat screen, but onto a gigantic dome that fills the viewer's entire field of vision.

The films are characterised by very high picture and sound quality. You can experience many different exciting nature films and documentaries as if you were in the middle of the film!

For example, you can witness an exciting cinema experience that shows the real moments of mankind's first steps on the moon up close. Or swim with the mammals through turquoise waters on the coasts of the Bahamas in the film ‘Dolphins’.
