Filmklappe Speyer e.V.

The Filmklappe Speyer e.V. association (website German only) aims to breathe even more life into Speyer's cinema scene.

In contrast to purely commercial cinemas, which primarily market films as commodities according to the laws of economics, non-commercial and community-based film work sees its task as placing films in their contextual, formal and historical contexts as works of art, documents and media.

The film screenings take place in the Old Town Hall in Speyer.

German Film Festival in Ludwigshafen

Just 20 km north of Speyer, the German Film Festival takes place every year in late summer. The location is very special: the idyllic Parkinsel island in the Rhine on the edge of the rough industrial city of Ludwigshafen.

With over 100,000 film enthusiasts, the festival is Germany's most popular public film festival after the Berlinale.

Here you can find out everything about the festival on the banks of the Rhine (website German only), which the Frankfurter newspaper described as ‘the most beautiful festival in Germany’.
